Declan McDermott is a musician, composer. Producer and Audio Engineer born in Sydney, Australia. Declan has been studying music for 20 years, beginning his musical journey as a classical guitarist in his early childhood.
Declan showed his aptitude as a multi-instrumentalist from a young age, progressively sweeping through different genres and gathering experience playing in local bands and orchestral ensembles, while also recording and composing music.
At age 10 Declan moved to the McDonald College Performing Arts School where he began studying music full time, having the privilege of working with some of the most highly accredited music tutors in Australia and the international scene.
Declan’s love of vintage synthesisers began in his early teens, after following the wise words of a mentor; Declan began to search deep within the production techniques responsible for the sounds of the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s music scene.
After falling in love with the early creations by synthesizer manufacturers such as Oberheim, Moog, Roland and other subsequent pieces of recording equipment that were responsible for the sonic aesthetic of these musical pioneers, The wild chase for these rare pieces of equipment ensued.
As his musical production and composition skills developed, Declan saw the potential of utilising his musical capabilities in scoring music for the screen. This led him to attend the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Fox Studios, Sydney, Australia.
During his time at AFTRS Declan developed various new skills in relation to writing music for the screen and other various entertainment formats. This included extensive DAW editing techniques, composition and orchestral arrangement. All of which became a useful asset for his ongoing work in advertising, film and television in the years to come.
As Declan began to travel, expand his musical horizon and experience working in other large scale production facilities, many common gaps began to appear. A formula for a unique music facility began to develop, a place of transcending genres, new unheard sounds, old methods of technology meeting new in seamless harmony all while making zero compromise in audio quality or creative workflow. A task that is not easily achieved.
After finally amounting a large personal collection of equipment in Berlin, Germany, Declan decided to design and build a facility in order to maximise the ergonomic structure of his vast collection.
This resulted in the creation of Lorikeet Sound Labs. A culmination of all of his musical experience and equipment, a flagship facility in the hub of Berlin, Europes electronic music capital.
Declan’s unique collection of instruments and equipment from all around the globe makes for a one of a kind experience, with no shortage of creative possibilities at hand.
